I Love You, Too...

"Castiel?" The tan wolf looked at her little brother.
"Hm?" He looked at her, tilting his head.
"What'll you do when I'm gone?"
"Sis, I don't wanna talk about that..."
"Okay, just keep it in mind, alright?"
"Okay."
"I love you." She smiled.
"Whatever." He grinned playfully.

Castiel, the little brother, and Spencer, the big sister, had always been close. Nothing separated them, even when the world shattered beneath their feet. They promised to keep each other safe.
But not even a promise can assure safety.
And this one didn't.

Hunting season came almost as quickly as a gust of wind. Castiel didn't know about it, since he was younger, and Spencer hadn't told him anything about it. She thought he couldn't handle it; even though they were fully grown now, Castiel had a gentle heart. He couldn't bear the thought of anything or anyone getting hurt.
So, when Spencer was napping, Castiel went out to get a drink of water. He didn't see the two hunters.
*BANG*
Castiel jerked his head up to see a large gun pointed straight at him. He bolted back to his den, but the hunters still knew which way he went.
By the time he had reached the cave again, Spencer had already figured it out. She leaped out, and lunged at the nearest hunter. She got him running away, but the other one had his gun pointed at her. He fired.
*BANG*
Right in the head.
Spencer collapsed, and the hunter was about to collect her corpse, but Castiel snapped his jaws at him. He attacked, scratching and biting at the man until he had no choice but to leave.
Then Castiel looked at Spencer. Blood gushed out from the side of her head, and Castiel did whatever he could to make it stop. It was futile. He knew she wouldn't make it.
But what really crushed him was that he remembered that he had never returned her "I love you"s.
He nuzzled her bloody cheek one last time, not able to hide his loud whimpers.
